J’ai toujours précieusement gardé mon manuel de mathématiques de 4ème malgré mes grandes difficultés dans cette discipline et les nœuds au cerveau que l’arithmétique provoque chez moi – je n’en tire aucune fierté car les mathématiques expliquent le monde et en modifient la compréhension. Mais il y a l’abstraction des axiomes, théorèmes et autres propositions qui courent de page en page et cette abstraction comporte à mes yeux de la poésie. J’ai donc souhaité créer un accord entre ces énoncés et la couleur.

 

J’espère que le résultat de cette rencontre entre mathématiques et pigments parviendra à toucher certains d’entre vous ou suscitera une réflexion sur la façon dont ces deux univers peuvent s’entrelacer. Enfin, j’ai voulu partager une vision de la beauté des concepts, certes parfois hermétiques mais intrinsèquement liés à notre réalité.

I have always held on to my middle-school mathematics textbook, despite my deep difficulties with the subject and the mental knots that arithmetic creates for me. I take no pride in this, since mathematics explains the world and shapes the way we understand it. Yet I am drawn to the abstraction of axioms, theorems, and propositions that move quietly from one page to the next. To me, this abstraction carries a form of poetry.

 

I wanted to bring these statements into contact with color, to let them meet. I hope that this encounter between mathematics and pigments might gently touch some viewers, or invite them to reflect on how these two worlds—so often kept apart—can intertwine. Through this work, I wished to share a sense of the beauty of concepts that may appear opaque, yet remain deeply and inseparably connected to our reality.
